Preparing For Your Breast Augmentation Consultation in Moncton, New Brunswick

A professional consultation at Dool Plastic Surgery begins with a thorough discussion of your goals and expectations. Once this is clear, you then can decide if you prefer saline liquid, or silicone gel breast implants, both of which have specific advantages. Dr. Dool will then determine where to make the incision for the breast implants according to your body type, preference, and the type of implant you have chosen. Using general anesthesia or IV sedation, the procedure will be done on an outpatient basis, allowing you, in most cases, to go home on the same day.

Increase Size, Replenish Volume, and Create Symmetry with State-of-the-Art Breast Implants

The beauty of breast augmentation is that it is easily performed on an outpatient basis, requiring only general anesthesia or IV sedation. Once it has been determined which type of implant you will have, along with the location of the incision, you are ready for the procedure. There are two typical areas where your saline liquid or silicone gel implants will be inserted:

  • within the fold beneath each breast (inframammary)
  • in the dark skin surrounding the nipple (periareolar)

With his careful attention to detail, Dr. Dool will place the implants either above or below the pectoral muscle, carefully closing the incisions with sutures.

The Recovery Process

After your breast implant surgery, it is natural to feel some discomfort, including tenderness and swelling. Lasting only a short time, you can then expect beautiful results that will last up to ten years or more.

Going home, you will have the assistance of a compression garment to help your breasts maintain shape during the healing process. Very rarely, if you have excess fluid in the area, you will receive a drain, which can usually be removed within one or two days. Any discomfort will be controlled with appropriate pain medication to be taken at home.

Depending on your health and age, the expected swelling and tenderness may last for a couple of weeks. After a few days of initial rest, you can easily resume a normal lifestyle, with the exception of engaging in strenuous exercise for two to three months in order to allow for complete healing.

Risks and Safety Protocols

At Dool Plastic Surgery, you are thoroughly monitored after your surgery to ensure that you are healing properly. Follow up care is always recommended, and will be booked routinely in the office after your surgery. You should continue with regular visits with your family doctor to ensure normal breast health, including routine check-ups and mammograms if indicated.

As with any surgery, there are always risks. Swelling and minor bruising may occur as a result of breast augmentation, but they generally subside quickly with time. Infection requiring antibiotics or removal of the implant is a very rare occurrence, as Dr. Dool takes numerous precautions against infection during the operation. Malposition of one or both implants is unusual, as the implant pocket is carefully dissected and the implants precisely placed. Some patients may develop a capsule around the implant which could distort its shape, or in some cases become so firm that it is painful. A variety of measures are taken by Dr. Dool to prevent against capsule formation and some pre-op decisions such as the texture of the implant, its position above or below the muscle, and its overall size, which may affect your risk of capsule formation. Many complications including wound healing problems are negatively affected by cigarette smoking and you are encouraged to stop smoking before your surgery.

Complementary Procedures

At Dool Plastic Surgery we offer several complementary procedures to harmonize with breast augmentation. These include, but are not limited to, body contouring options such as:

Breast Augmentation Fees
