Breast Reduction in Moncton, New Brunswick

What is Breast Reduction Surgery?

Overly large breasts create irregularities in body proportion. They can also impose limits on a woman's lifestyle, causing pain and preventing her from engaging in activities such as exercise. Thus, breast reduction can function as either a cosmetic or reconstructive surgery. Breast reduction in Moncton, New Brunswick, with Dr. Jayson Dool can alleviate these and other issues caused by abnormally large breasts.

Breast Reduction Benefits

Breast reduction surgery removes excess fat, skin, and other tissues to place the patient’s breast size in better proportion with her body type. Benefits include:

  • A more attractive contour
  • Better-fitting clothes.
  • Reduction in back or shoulder pain.
  • Lifestyle improvements including ability to exercise.

Breast reduction also often results in an improved appearance of the areola – the darker tissue surrounding the nipple.

How Does Breast Reduction Work?

Your breast reduction will require either IV sedation or general anesthesia. In order to perform your breast reduction, Dr. Dool will make one of three incision patterns, depending on your needs:

  • A "donut" incision around the circumference of the areola.
  • A "lollipop" incision – a "donut" incision with an additional incision extending downward toward the lower fold of the breast.
  • An "anchor" or "inverted T" pattern – a "donut incision with three additional incisions at the top and sides of the breast.

He will then remove and reshape the necessary tissues to reduce your breast size. In many cases, Dr. Dool will raise the areolas and nipples to a more youthful position. Although your nipple will be separated from the surrounding skin, it will remain attached to the underlying glandular and vascular tissue.

Once he has removed the necessary amount of tissue, Dr. Dool will close your incisions with sutures.

Breast Reduction Recovery

You will be send home with a compression garment to support your breasts as you recover. You may also be fitted with a draining tube to reduce fluid accumulation. You will have these removed after a few days at your follow-up appointment.

You will experience some bruising, swelling, and tenderness during your recovery. These symptoms will fade gradually, revealing your final results. For many women, breast reduction surgery also results in smaller, more attractive areolas.

Once the swelling has gone down, many women find themselves able to engage in activities previously made painful or even impossible by their breast size.

Breast Reduction Safety & Risks

Remember to inform Dr. Dool if you are planning on future pregnancies; he may advise you to wait to have breast reduction surgery until after you have had your last child.

The possible complications of breast reduction surgery include asymmetry, numbness, scarring, and poor wound healing. The risks inherent to anesthesia also apply.

Complementary Procedures to Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery generally includes some degree of breast lift procedure. Dr. Dool often uses liposuction to remove fat deposits in order to reduce the size of women’s breasts. Some women choose to combine a tummy tuck with their breast reduction surgery.

Breast Reduction Fees

The cost of your breast reduction surgery will depend on factors such as the necessary incisions and the amount of tissue removed. Your anesthesia method will also play a role. Breast reduction surgery can cost from $7000 to $10000 or more. However, because breast reduction is often performed as a reconstructive surgery, your insurance may cover your procedure.
